SIZING

To ensure your DxE Atelier hat fits just right, it’s important to take an accurate head measurement. Here’s how to do it:

1. Use a measuring tape. If you don’t have one, a piece of string will work—just measure it later with a ruler.
2. Wrap the tape or string around your head. It should sit centered at the back of your head, approximately 1.5 finger-widths above your eyebrows at the front, and about 1 finger-width above your ears.
3. If you’re using string, lay it flat on a surface and measure the length with a ruler.
4. Repeat the process 3–4 times to make sure your measurement is consistent and accurate.

If your hat is slightly loose, sometimes felt pads strategically placed under the sweatband will allow you to adjust the sizing. We enclose felt pads with all our hats, along with instructions on how to use them. 

If your hat feels a bit tight  there’s an easy and natural way to stretch it. All you need is hot steam.

Steam Method

1. Hold your hat with the inside facing up, and expose the crown (top part) to steam. You can use a steamer or a pot of boiling water.
2. Using both hands, gently stretch the hat from the inside while it’s warm from the steam.
3. Put the hat on your head and gently pull from the front, back, and sides—focusing on the areas where it feels tight.
4. If it still feels snug, repeat the process a couple more times.
5. Let the hat cool and dry before wearing it again. It should now fit more comfortably.

CARE

HOW DO I TAKE CARE OF MY HATS?

The best way to store a hat is away from humidity or any heat source to prevent shrinkage and distortion of shape or color. You can remove surface dirt by brushing loose dust off with a light brush.

CAN I WEAR MY HAT IN THE RAIN?

Most felt hats are water repellent, NOT waterproof. As such, a light rain shower or drizzle will not destroy your felt hat. However, heavy rain will most likely damage it. Straw hats should NOT be worn in the rain as it will not maintain its shape in wet weather. If your hat gets soaked, do not place it on a heater or in the sun, as heat can cause the hat to shrink. Take it inside and let it air dry on a flat service.

To remove dust, brush the hat, always brushing in one direction - the top of the hat counterclockwise, the bottom clockwise.

To remove stains, gently use fine sandpaper, then brush.
